The Ten Lepers and the Final Judgment
Fr. Michael Clark

In Fr. Clark’s Sermon for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, he explained that the experience of the Ten Lepers coming before Christ is the experience that we all will have at the Final Judgment.  “All of us have sinned and contradict the life of grace in us.”  Our experience of judgment has been from other humans judging us which is often based on power and control, and therefore flawed.  We should never be fearful of God’s judgment of us, because His judgment is perfect.

“God cannot abide in the presence of sin; it is a contradiction of terms.  Therefore, for us to share God’s life means He must give us away to become sinless, that is, for our personal sins to be forgiven and also for us to be purified from the desire for sin. We need to be rewired so that we naturally prefer God’s goodness to our own self-interests. There is no one in heaven who prefers his own self-interests to the will of God.”
