5 Misunderstandings about the Bible
Fr. Michael Clark

In Fr. Clark’s Sermon for the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost, he discussed 5 misunderstandings about the Bible that many people believe.  These misunderstandings include:

1. The Bible is primarily a narrative.  In fact, the bible is full of songs, psalms, poems and prophecy.  To demonstrate the poetic beauty of scripture in its original language, Fr. Clark recited in Greek the great Christological Hymn from Philippians 2.

2. The Bible is more sacred than tradition.  Fr. Clark pointed to the error of  the current view that documents are more valued than truths passed on through tradition.  In fact, scripture and tradition need each other.

3.  The “Gospel” refers to a written scripture.  St. Paul writes about “preaching the Gospel” long before there was a written form.
